Work smarter, not longer...
The sooner you take this lesson to heart, the happier you’ll be: your career isn’t the be-all and end-all of life. Establishing that coveted work-life balance in your 20s will allow you to have time for self-care, relationships, hobbies, and travel while also paying the bills. With that said, your career does define a significant portion of your life. You’ll spend nearly a third of your time clocking in and earning money. You might as well enjoy what you do!
You have so many career possibilities in your 20s; you can put your foot in the door of literally any industry and work your way up. But deciding what to do for the rest of your life can also feel overwhelming. Will you be wasting time if you don’t make the right choice right away? The answer is a resounding NO WAY! There’s absolutely nothing wasteful about trying different options and discovering what you enjoy and what you abhor. You have nothing to lose by trying!
But give yourself a chance to settle in at a new job before you make any judgment calls. Learning the dos and don’ts of office life can take a little time. Once you successfully get a job, you need to do your best to keep that job through personal and professional development. And perhaps one of the most important skills you can learn is how to leave a job that makes you unhappy so that you can move on to bigger and better things.
If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, you might even start your own business in your 20s. Whether you decide to go the brick-and-mortar or ecommerce route, it’s exciting to be at the helm of your own business, making decisions and bringing your vision to life. But for those times when you need a little guidance, we’ve got your back.
