Hosting a party in your twenties is a very selfless endeavor especially in such a self-absorbed world! Opening your home to friends and families is a great way to socialize, and dare we say network, among people you already know. A well-planned party will ensure that the host will be able to enjoy themselves and hopefully host more parties!
The invite can be written either by hand, e-vite or other social media outlets with the necessary information: date, time, location, occasion, what to bring, and of course what to wear! The guest list is critical to how the party will flow, inviting like-minded guests will ensure a smooth evening whereas an eclectic mix will add variety to the party. Be sure to introduce all guests to one another and don’t assume everyone knows each other. Sometimes a reintroduction is a great way to remember where you met someone as well as a great conversation starter.
Be prepared for your party as if the guest were to bring nothing; therefore, have drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, something to snack on, and plenty of ice! Be sure to clean your home/bathroom well enough for guests to think your place is always clean.
Have plenty of seating or make sure the floor is a welcomed option.
Deciding to host a party and invite your friends and family can be a spur of the moment or a very well planned event. Either way, you are the host and should always be prepared to have a continuous flow during the party that keeps the guest engaged. Your guests should leave feeling like you were a very gracious host!
Make sure your invite is clear and sent with enough time for guest to respond. Include date, time, location, reason for the occasion, attire, what to bring, and when to rsvp.
Menu, music, mood; a well-planned event will ensure you can relax and enjoy your guests. Plan your menu…will you be serving dinner? Be sure to pick a menu that can accommodate your kitchen size. Set up your bar – alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. Don’t forget ice!
Have a timeline prepared! When will dinner be served or party games begun?
Greet guests with a warm welcome. Be sure to engage with each guest at some point during the event.
Uninvited guest, spills, or other accidents can and will happen. Remain calm and problem solve any issues.
Gratitude goes a long way. Show gratitude towards your guest for attending your event. Also acknowledge if they brought a host gift.
