We all have certain gifts and talents in life. Things that we are naturally good at, and things that we usually enjoy doing. When you think about these, you should consider opportunities to share your gift.

But because we view them as “our” gift, we sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that only we can benefit from them. Yet, in reality, the gifts we are blessed with are not really “ours” to begin with.

They belong to the world. We are just the giver.

Each and every one of us has something special to give to this world and to the people that need that gift most.

It can be an incredible voice that brings joy to the ears of the hopeful; a nurturing heart that can heal those who need healing; or an inspiring mind that can share wisdom and guidance to lift people up.

No matter what it is, we all have a gift to give, and it’s a matter of first realizing and honoring it, and then sharing it with the rest of society.

Oftentimes, these “gifts for humanity” are a key to unlocking our purpose—to unlocking what it is we are actually supposed to be doing with our lives.

And the beautiful thing is that our gifts are special and unique to us. No two gifts will ever be the same, because no two people will ever be the same.

There are thousands of professions and ways of life in the world. But there is only purpose for you, and that purpose can be found by discovering and trusting in your gift.

After all, it’s not what you do for a living that matters, but what do you for life

What are you doing for society? What is the one gift you can share that others cannot…for a reason?

How to Share Your Gift

Our gifts can open so many paths in our life, if we can only realize and appreciate them.

But a lot of times we hide these gifts. We push them to the periphery of our lives, because we may feel that they are not “practical” to everyday life or because we can’t make a living out of them.

Perhaps, we have not received the external validation we are seeking, and so ignore or diminish those gifts because there is no “reward” for us.

But until you can share your gift with the world, the world will not share its gifts with you.

What we give is what we receive, and until we can learn to start trusting in the gift that life has given us, we will never receive what it is we are ultimately seeking.

Remember that gifts are ultimately meant to be given, not hidden.

So think about some of the gifts you are blessed with it and see if you can start sharing yours with the people who need it most.

Actionable Steps

1

Identify your gifts

This isn’t about what you do or what skills you list on your CV. Maybe you have gifts you don’t use much because they aren’t practical in terms of turning a profit. You can still use these gifts to help others.

2

Figure Out How to Use These Gifts

A lot of people set aside things they think aren’t “marketable skills.” But these are things you can still enjoy while helping others. For example, you may have set aside your paint brushes to get a business degree, but you could volunteer to paint a neighborhood mural on the weekend, or teach art classes to underprivileged children on your day off.

3

Connect with Others Who Appreciate or Share Your Gift

Look for local groups that share an interest in your gift. You may find opportunities to volunteer, work on collaborative projects, or make new friends who share your interests.
